    The Challenge

"Lea is a book lover with a founder's mind who saw a gap in the market for a dedicated social space for readers: a place where you could share what you're reading, discover books through people you trust, and connect with other readers."

Building a social network from the ground up required solving complex data relationship problems — linking users, books, reviews, and events into a seamless, high-performance experience. We also needed to ensure the web platform was highly discoverable for SEO while the mobile app provided the low-latency feel expected of a modern social media platform.

    Our Approach

Our strategy focused on a 'write once, run anywhere' philosophy. We leveraged Next.js to build a lightning-fast, SEO-optimized web presence, while simultaneously developing the React Native mobile app. Both platforms share a centralized NestJS API, which allowed us to implement complex features like social feeds and event discovery with maximum code reuse and consistency.

    What we built

DevForge took Bookish from concept to a fully realised platform, building a cross-platform mobile app with React Native and a comprehensive web presence using Next.js, all powered by a robust NestJS backend.

  1. Dynamic social news feed with reactions and reposting
  2. Full-featured user profiles and personal reading histories
  3. Integrated global book database with rich metadata
  4. Community event discovery, RSVPs, and local listings
  5. Push notifications and real-time engagement loops
  6. Robust moderation tools and user reporting systems
  7. SEO-optimized web dashboards for public community access
  8. The Outcome

Bookish is a live, full-featured product built over a year of consistent, reliable collaboration. Our approach ensured clear communication and technical excellence, allowing a non-technical founder to successfully bring a complex social platform to market.

"DevForge translated our complex social requirements into a sleek, high-performance reality. Their expertise in cross-platform development saved us months of redundant work and allowed us to launch on both web and mobile simultaneously."
